It’s Cheap

For Leica lenses, the larger the aperture, the higher the price. However, the Voigtlander nokton VM50 1.1 is very cheap despite its large aperture. This is a lens produced in Japan. The image quality is not as good as Leica, and the workmanship is not as exquisite as Leica. However, it has a large aperture and is very cheap.

Street Photography

A good street photography lens allows users to focus on shooting and focus quickly. Voigtlander vm50/F1.1 does this. Its focus ring has a short travel distance, which is conducive to quick focusing. Despite its size, the VM50 1.1 is actually not heavy at all. Although the Leica Summarit M50 1.5 is smaller than the Nokton 50, it is much heavier than the Nokton. Of course, the Leica noctilux 50 0.95 weighs more. Compared with them, the Voigtlander Nokton 50 is simply too light.

Large aperture lens

Leica noctilux lenses are not sharp at full aperture, such as the noctilux 50 1.0 and the noctilux 50 1.2. The Voigtlander Nokton 50 1.1 cannot be too demanding at f/1.1. After all, the purpose of using f/1.1 aperture is to achieve beautiful bokeh. This lens is worth using, who says it’s cheap but not good? Taking portraits of family and friends using f/1.1 aperture and they all love it.

Color

Its shortcoming is not the sharpness, but that the colors are a bit flat. Looking at the lens coating, I think it is not as beautiful as those from Leica and Zeiss, which may be the main reason why it is cheap. I love converting the image to black and white, it’s perfect. On digital cameras, color can be adjusted through software.

Digital Camera

Leica noctilux 50 f/1.0 and noctilux 50 1.2 asph will have purple fringing on digital cameras. The same goes for the Voigtlander lens. When a large aperture lens encounters a digital body, it is normal for purple fringing to appear. Can be removed via software. My favorite is to use it with a Leica m8 camera to take black and white photos, it’s actually very good.
