Some moments in street photography can only be captured in the East—like the sight of people using umbrellas on a sunny day.
Over the past century, our architecture has grown increasingly international. Even many of our daily habits are no longer strictly traditional.
Yet, one custom seems unshakable: the act of seeking shade under an umbrella when the sun is high. The world understands seeking shelter from the coolness of rain. Here, we simply understand that the sun, too, can be hot—and sometimes, it’s best to keep a respectful distance.
