Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH

ASPH

There are lots of different Leica 28mm lenses to choose from, including the 28mm f/6.3 Hekor, the 28mm f/5.6, the Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 (v1, v2, v3, v4). There are lots of different versions and lots of stories to tell. The current 28mm f/2 ASPH is the upgrade of the elmarit 28mm f/2.8 v4, and it uses ASPH glass. It has great 3D vision, a sharp f/2 aperture, and perfect bokeh.

f/2.8

The bokeh from Summicron is really easy on the eye and not at all messy. This lens is based on the design concept of modern lenses. ASPH lenses help to improve clarity and make the bokeh softer. It’s not part of the Leica classic lens series, but it has better optical performance. The f/2 aperture lets you shoot in lower light, and the lens is really fast, so it’s versatile.

shortcoming

Just a heads-up: the aperture ring on this lens is a little loose, so it’s easy to accidentally touch it and change the aperture without realizing it. Also, the hood is a bit big, and I don’t like to install it.

choose

This is the best Leica lens out there, better than all the 28mm lenses from Zeiss ZM and Voigtlander VM. When it comes to 28mm lenses, there’s no reason to choose anything other than a Leica. If you think the price of the Summicron 28 is too high, you could consider the second-hand Elmarit 28 instead. It’s only one stop smaller than the Summicron, but it’s a great deal.
