Walking Around

I just heard that Liu Tao, the photographer of “Walking Around” went to New York. Unexpected, but also reasonable. What I like about his works they are interesting, you can see a person who thinks independently. His favorite camera is the Fuji x100 and I am not him, I love the Leica summilux 35mm f/1.4 and walk around with a Leica camera.

Interesting photography is not about just looking at photos. Photos are just the medium. The photographer’s personality is deeply embedded in the work. Don’t think that Liu Tao just shoots on the street. He has read many photography books. He thinks about life through photography, and photography through life.

Photography Book Without Pictures

In short, don’t think that street photographers just have time to take pictures and lucky. In fact, when they are not taking pictures, photographers are also reading and thinking. One more thing, many photographers have never read a photography book that is purely text-based. ah? Can a photography book not have photos? Yes, a good photographer must have read picture albums without words and photography books with only words.Have you ever seen a photography book without pictures?

Compact Camera

Liu Tao likes to use Fuji x100 cameras and Leica x1, while I like to use Leica cameras. Of course, whether the photos are interesting or not depends mainly on the photographer, not the equipment. But we have one thing in common, that is, we all use small and quiet rangefinder cameras, which are actually more conducive to street photography. Not disturbing other cameras is more advantageous in street photography. Therefore, sometimes what equipment you choose is also very important for photographers. Leica m3 and the Leica Summilux 35 f/1.4 pre-asph is my favorit. I learned this from a photography book without pictures, which was an interview with a photographer. Many street photographers choose cameras that are compact and do not disturb passers-by for street photography.
